 As their first album without founding drummer-vocalist Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who tragically passed during the record’s writing, Nightmare was a make-or-break moment for Avenged Sevenfold. Fortunately, the Orange County titans were able to persevere through grief and put together an album that was as heart-wrenching (see: ballads like “So Far Away” and “Fiction”) as it was re-affirmingly heavy (“Natural Born Killer,” “Welcome to the Family” and “God Hates Us All” are total bangers). In other words, it was a “make.”
