Hatsuyuki emerges in the spring with white dusting across the entire leaf. As the summer progresses, chlorophyll enters more of the center of the leaf leaving a border of white around nearly every leaf. Fall color on Hatsu yuki is a brilliant golden yellow.

Hatsu yuki is a variegated selection of a snakebark maple. This type of tree gets the name snakebark because the bark of this Japanese maple grows heavy black and white striations in the green bark that gives the appearance of a snake s skin. 

Snakebark maples typically like good drainage, so planting on a hill or bank is encouraged. Raised beds may have the same effect. Protection from the hot afternoon sun is recommended for this variegated selection. Hatsuyuki is the orignal name of this tree in Japan. It has also been known under the name Albolimbatum , which is believed to be the first name this snakebark received when it came to western civilization from Japan. 

Hatsuyuki can reach 10-12 ft tall and wide in 15 years with an upright and sometimes semi-pendulous habit.
